Melissa Sandor; Consultant and Writer
Melissa Sandor has 14 years of experience in arts and education
not-for-profit fund raising in New York City and nationally. She has
provided services in capital campaign planning and implementation, corporate
and foundation relations, major gifts strategy and cultivation, prospect
research, special events planning and database assessment and conversion.
Sandor was the Director of Development for Studio in a School, a New York
City based visual arts education organization. She was responsible for
raising $4.5 million a year, board recruitment and stewardship and the
successful management of the organization’s 25th Anniversary Gala, which
resulted in $1.2 million of revenue.
As a senior development officer at Kent Place School in Summit, New Jersey,
Sandor effectively qualified the school for a $25 million capital
campaign, established a major gifts and prospect research program and
secured the school’s first corporate funding effort. Sandor has held senior
fundraising positions with The City University of New York, Queens College,
where she managed corporate and foundation relations, and Pratt Institute,
where she established a major donor effort that resulted in the
institution’s largest gift to date of $13 million.
Sandor is a member of the Board of Directors of Women in Development, New
York and the New Jersey Chapter of the American Prospect Research
Association and has presented at the Council for the Advancement of
Secondary Education (CASE) annual conference.
She is a published journalist covering arts and culture for Buffalo Spree
magazine and ArtVoice.
